At World Cassette Outreach of India, we believe the "is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes" (Rom 1:16). Therefore, our primary focus is on the Word.

Providing Timely Technology for the Timeless Truth that ALL may hear the Gospel

For over 30 years, WCOI has been helping people in India HEAR God speak to them in their own language through Audio Bibles.  We work hand in hand with Bible translators to reach the 60% of India that are functionally non-literate by helping provide them with Audio Scriptures that are recorded in their Heart Language.

We depend on God's people who share a vision for providing God's Word in audio to the people of India. If God is calling you to partner with us, please read on to learn how you can join us in prayer, financial support, and/or a mission immersion experience.

Audio Scriptures in the Jungles of North India

We recently got back from a distribution were we distributed 150 units. The village had a literacy rate of less than 5% and no electricity. The languages that were distributed were Sadri, Mundari and Hindi New testaments. It was so good to see the smiles on everyone's face the moment they turned on their Audio Bibles. I would like to talk about a tribal group in India called the Mundaris in this update. I shared this little note about the Mundaris to a few of our partners and would like to share it with you as well.

The Mundaris have a population of 500,000 people. They live in 5 different states here in India. They are Jharkand, Orrisa, Assam, Bihar and Andamans. Their main occupation is Agriculture. They cultivate their fields during the monsoon and then work in construction sites or as daily wage laborers once the monsoon is done. They brew liquor from a particular flower that is found in the forest and rotted rice. The Mundaris enjoy getting drunk. Liquor is so important to their culture that they usually make sure that a newborn baby will taste the liquor first even before it is fed by its mother's milk. They worship nature such as Sun, Moon, Hills, Trees, and Stones. The Mundaris also worship the people of the family who are dead and they become their family deities.

They usually spend all the money they make by eating, drinking and sitting idle. They are not interested to accumulate wealth for worldly pleasures. The Literacy rate among the Mundaris is 5 to 7%. The only piece of literature that is available in their language is The Bible and their Christian Song Book. Most settlements have no electricity. The local Government has provided each family with a solar powered lamp that they use at night. They also do not own a television set or radio.

There are about 1000 churches that have been planted among these tribals, 500 pastors and 1000 full time evangelists are working with this people group. The churches or missions involved are Church of North India (CNI), Gessner Evangelical Lutheran Church (GEL), Northwest  Gessner Evangelical Lutheran Church, few Roman Catholic Churches and a few Pentecostal churches.

We need 5000 to 8000 Ambassadors / Envoys to help this people group. We have recorded the New Testament in this particular language. This is a very needy group, and they are hungry for God. The time to reach them is NOW.

I would like to end with the following story we heard a few years back from the Mundaris. This story took place a few years. It’s one of my favourite stories  as to how God works in wonderful ways just through Audio Scripture. I hope this encourages you as well.

A few years back the state of Orrisa witnessed a huge rise in persecution. Many Christians fled from their settlements into the jungles to seek refuge. We had just distributed our cassette player kits with the New Testament cassettes to this people group a few months before the persecution started.  We were worried as to how they were doing and we asked one of the local missionaries to trace them out and see how they are. The local missionary found them and sent us a report that said

Hello, we are all fine in the Jungles of Orissa, Thank you for your concern. Thank you for the cassettes you gave us a few months back. When we were discouraged and often thought that the whole world was against us, we would hear the Bible in Audio and it gave us hope and a reason to live. It also encouraged us and we will not renounce our faith in Jesus Christ who is our only Lord and Savior. Pray for us!

What a blessing!

Would you like to help the Mundaris have an Audio Bible. Do get in touch with us today and we will give you more information as to how you can help.

May you be blessed!
